The Wobblies Celebrate their Centennial
Archival Display in Edmonton


Edmonton - The Edmonton Branch of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) affectionately known as the ‘Wobblies’ are celebrating their Centennial 1905-2005 with a display of IWW archival materials from the Walter Reuther Labour Archives in Detroit. The material includes major historical events in the struggle for free speech, against war, and in the fight for workers rights in North America. Mush of this material has never been seen before.

This Archival display is traveling across North America in celebration of the first North American radical Syndicalist union. Edmonton is the first Canadian city to host this display. It will be shown at the at the 2005 Labour History Day celebrations tomorrow in the Stanley A. Milner Library,

Celebrations will begin shortly after 12 Noon on Saturday, August 13, 2005 in the Edmonton Room of the Stanley A. Milner Library, 100 St. & 102 Ave., Edmonton. The afternoon program will commence at 1:00 PM with official greetings followed by the 100th Anniversary Presentations.

The IWW Archive Display will then be on public display at the Stanley A. Milner Public Library until August 23.
