War Resisters Welcome Here

Now that King George has expanded his Imperialist war in Iraq despite the outspoken opposition of the people of the United States, it is time that Canadian's open their doors to our American friends who are war resisters.

Canada and Canadians have welcomed our American friends who were war resisters and draft dodgers during the Viet Nam war.

Heck we would have even welcomed Bush, Clinton and Tony Snow, but they got deferals.

URGENT APPEAL:
Temporary Housing for U.S. War Resisters & Conscientious Objectors

EMERGENCY HOUSING APPEAL!!!

Since the news broke that George Bush will be announcing an increased
deployment of 20,000 troops to Iraq, there has been a huge response
within the U.S. military.

The War Resisters Support Campaign has been inundated with requests from

soldiers who are considering coming to Canada.

This is an urgent appeal for housing spots for the new arrivals. If you
have room where you can house a resister for a few days, a few weeks or
longer, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH US.

Welcoming a war resister here with the offer of temporary housing is a
concrete way to help put an end to war in Iraq. Anything you can do to
help would be greatly appreciated!

ACTIONS

It is more urgent than ever that we send a message to the Canadian government that Canada needs to welcome US men and women who refuse to participate in the illegal and immoral war in Iraq. There are three actions you can take today to help support the war resisters.

Petition

Add your name to the petition calling for the federal government to make a provision to allow war resisters to stay in Canada. Initial signatories include June Callwood, David Suzuki, Maude Barlow, Shirley Douglas, Naomi Klein, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Amir Khadir, Paul Cliche and M.G. Vassanji.

You can add your name at http://www.PetitionOnline.com/resister/petition.html.
You can also download a hard copy of the petition.

Contact the federal government
Jeremy Hinzman's hearing before the Immigration and Refugee Board is now over with the IRB ruling against his refugee claim. However the fight is far from over. The federal court has upheld the decision of the IRB and it is now being appealed to the Federal Court of Appeal. It is urgent that everyone who supports the right of US war resisters to stay in Canada immediately contact both Prime Minister Stephen Harperand Minister of Citizenship & Immigration Monte Solberg and demand that they make a provision to allow U.S. war resisters to stay in this country.

As more troops are asked to return or extend their tours to Iraq and as President Bush has admitted that soon he will send even more, some soldiers have deserted to Canada. NAM Managing Editor Mary Ambrose fnds their official reception has been a little frosty.

Soldier Say No!

War Resisters' International was founded in 1921 under the name "Paco". It was and is based on the WRI declaration:

War is a crime against humanity. I am therefore determined not to support any kind of war, and to strive for the removal of all causes of war

War Resisters' International exists to promote nonviolent action against the causes of war, and to support and connect people around the world who refuse to take part in war or the preparation of war. On this basis, WRI works for a world without war.

  1. Holy fuck you people are stupid.

Tell ya what, instead of taking in war resisters, why don't you just move to Iran? Or maybe Syria? Or North Korea? You know, one of those peace loving nations where you'll never have to worry about your government doing anything bad. Make sure you send me a postcard when you get there!

  2. So how come you are still here and not fighting your little war over in Iraq or Afghanistan if you are such a patriot. You ain't because you are just a coward. At least war resisters have seen the face of war and hate it. You love it from the comfort of your chair in front of your computer.
