Tsipras: Greek Independence Day teaches us small people can defeat an empire when their flags say Freedom or Death

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras said that March 25, Greek Independence Day, is a reminder that small people can defeat a powerful empire.

“March 25 is an inspiration and an incentive for all generations of Greeks and a timeless example for all the people of the world,” main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras said in a social media post for the national holiday on Friday.

The March 25 holiday “teaches us that even a small people are capable of defeating a powerful empire when their flag bears the decision Freedom or Death”.

Tsipras underlined that “today, when Greece is caught up in the vortex of a multi-faceted crisis, with the shadow of war over Ukraine, with active threats against our sovereign rights, our national independence and social justice, we have more need than ever of the road map of memory, as it was drawn up by 1821 and captured by Yiannis Ritsos: A small people and it fights without swords and shot for all the world’s bread, light and song.”
