Sir Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams are interested in buying Chelsea Football Club.

The seven-time F1 champion, and 23 times tennis grand slam winner, are committing millions to one of the bids for the football club, Sky News are reporting.

The bid is spearheaded by Sir Martin Broughton, a former chairman of British Airways and Liverpool FC.

It is understood that both Hamilton and Williams have pledged around £10m each to the bid, along with other members of the consortium.

Hamilton, an Arsenal fan, has invested in a number of companies in the past, while Serena Williams launched Serena Ventures, a venture capital fund that has invested in Opensponsorship, a British start-up.

Talks have been ongoing with Sir Martin’s consortium for weeks, Sky News reports.

A source close to the group said the addition of Sir Lewis and Ms Williams was a serious investment decision because of their experience at building global sports brands.

The Broughton-led group's other investors include: Canada's Rogers family, which holds a big interest in the media and telecoms company Rogers Communications; John Arnold, who chaired the Houston 2026 FIFA World Cup bid committee; and Taiwan's Tsai family, which owns the Taipei Fubon Braves and Fubon Guardians baseball teams.

Roman Abramovich has owned Chelsea since 2003 but put the club up for sale on March 2 in the wake of Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine.
