Iceland's government is set to resume hunting fin whales after a two-month pause but with guidelines in place aimed at killing the animals as quickly as possible to reduce suffering. A global moratorium on whaling has been in place since 1986 but the controversial practice continues in Iceland, Norway and Japan. Iceland's government has said it is suspending this year's whale hunt until the end of August due to animal welfare concerns, likely bringing the controversial practice to a historic end. It follows a a government-commissioned report that concluded the hunt does not comply with Iceland's Animal Welfare Act
