STAR-IDAZ International Research Consortium on Animal Health (STAR-IDAZ IRC) is pleased to announce the release of its annual state-of-the-art report on animal health research priorities for September 2023. This comprehensive document provides valuable insights into the latest developments and trends in animal health research, with a focus on agreed priority animal diseases at a global level.

The STAR-IDAZ IRC was established in 2016 with the mission of coordinating international research efforts to expedite the development of innovative animal health strategies for priority diseases, infections, and issues affecting animals worldwide. The consortium aims to deliver enhanced control tools and strategies, including candidate vaccines, diagnostics, therapeutics, and other animal health products, as well as crucial scientific information and tools to support risk analysis and disease control for at least 30 priority diseases.

The annual state-of-the-art report serves as a valuable resource for STAR-IDAZ IRC members, as well as other stakeholders in the field of animal health. It offers a comprehensive overview of opportunities to accelerate research, foster collaboration, and presents the latest discoveries related to priority animal health diseases. The insights provided in this report will support policymakers and research funders in making informed decisions to facilitate the coordinated development of control methods at an international level.

Key Highlights of the Report:
1.         Research Initiatives and Collaborations: The report details efforts to expedite research and development, facilitate transnational collaborations, and highlight recent infrastructures and databases aimed at advancing research in animal health.
2.         Priority Disease Updates: The report presents updates on key research developments in diseases and issues affecting animals, such as African swine fever, bovine tuberculosis, coronaviruses, vector-borne diseases, antimicrobial resistance, influenza, mycoplasmas, diagnostics, one health, and vaccinology.

5.         Engagement with Industry: STAR-IDAZ IRC is actively engaged with industry stakeholders.

6.         Regional Networks: The STAR-IDAZ Regional Networks in Africa & the Middle East, the Americas, Asia & Australasia, and Europe continue to facilitate regional cooperation and coordination in identifying research priorities and funding opportunities.
7.         Working Groups: The report provides updates on the activities of the STAR-IDAZ IRC working groups focused on diseases such as influenza, One Health, antimicrobial resistance, African swine fever, bovine tuberculosis, coronaviruses, diagnostics, mycoplasmas, vaccinology, vector biology and disease transmission, and helminths.
