It’s possible that I shall make an ass of myself. But in that case one can always get out of it with a little dialectic. I have, of course, so worded my proposition as to be right either way (K.Marx, Letter to F.Engels on the Indian Mutiny)
Thomas Jefferson had some thing to say about slavery, as well. He was also a slaveowner, and was until, and beyond, his death (he did not release his slaves in his will).
It is possible for wealthy men to have good ideas. It would have been nice, however, had Jefferson released his slaves.
Yes and Jefferson like Washington also grew hemp and fought against large scale bankers and industrialists in favour of farmers and an agrarian America which was a losing battle.
That being said Gore has Tipper who wanted to censor records for the good of America's youth. Which ended up going nowherer except as parental advesory labels. On the other hand it did give us Henry Rollins and his one man libertarian crusade.
I just checked out Tarvoks blog, you should to. It's quite enlightening, but thats because I was surprized to find we agree on several issues he has posted on his The Weekly Rambling, such as his position on the Iran Nuke question and on the need to legalize drugs. And he has a Gore Speech on the current Bush Spy Scandal in the U.S. On a Libertarian blog yet.
Yeah, us Libertarians are crazy. A colleague of mine (wow, I can say "colleague" now!) was talking today about how people just can't figure us out. One guy actually asked him, "How can you be for the free market AND drug legalization at the same time?"
I mean, seriously, it's a no-brainer from where I stand, but the American "conservative-liberal" false dichotomy generally rules the way people think, as opposed to actual logical thought.
