NDP Anti-Scab Legislation

Once again the NDP will try in this sitting of the Parliament to bring in Anti-Scab legislation. Maybe this time the 'left of centre' Liberals will support it. Unlike last year. Now that they are the opposition and not the government they have no excuse not to.

Mon 1 May 2006 NDP MPs launch anti-scab bill on May Day
NDP MP Pat Martin is introducing legislation today that would ban the use of replacement workers during labour disputes and work stoppages under federal jurisdiction.

It was the Liberals who appointed the completely pro-industry board of the CIRB. The Liberal Labour Minister Joe Fontana who let Telus get away with repeatedly breaking the law and ignoring CIRB rulings, actions that left the TWU hanging in the wind until we were betrayed by our own leadership.

Never expect the Liberals to do the right thing if they can possibly get away with doing nothing. They are worried right now about their left flank so they might pretend to support the anti-scab legislation, then just make sure enough Liberal MPs are missing from the house when it comes to a vote so that it can fail with them rightously claiming to support it.
