Former Alberta NDP leader Raj Pannu is planning to retire from politics.
First elected as an NDP MLA in 1997, Pannu has won three elections in the riding. He led the provincial party from 2000 to 2004. Before entering politics, he was a professor at the University of Alberta.Edmonton Strathcona NDP MLA Raj Pannu is stepping down. Having helped get him elected along with Pam Barrett when the NDP had no seats in 1997, Raj was key to the revitalization of the party in Alberta. Today with four NDP MLA's, double even the 1997 come back, Raj as former leader was gracious in passing the crown onto Brian Mason. He will be missed in the house as a voice of dignified democratic socialism. And who can ever forget the unofficial campaign slogan that became his motto;
