Out of Print Download it for Free

Doug Henwood the left wing economist and lurking debunker of neo-liberalism and what he calls globalbalony, whose Left Business Observer is a must read, and is linked in my left hand sidebar, has offered his first book, Wallstreet for free.

Yep Verso publishers the publishing arm of New Left Review, a left wing Capitalist enterprise which overcharges for its books, (they limit their readership to well heeled academics) has put his book OP. Out of Print.

So Doug ever clever at marketing, better than NLR or Verso, has put it online for free download. Yep free. Of course he does invite donations, but I would suggest a subscription to his Left Business Observer would be a good bet.

This is a damn fine read for those who waited for the Left to finally criticise neo-liberalism and the junk bond casino capitalism of the Reagan, Clinton, Bush years. And waited, and waited until they all turned into Tony Blair.

Wall Street was first published in hardcover by Verso in 1997, and in paperback in 1998. Since Verso chose not to reprint it when it went out of stock, the rights reverted to the author in March 2005.

It's now available for free download on the web, under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs license. It may be recirculated freely for noncommercial use only. No alterations are allowed, and the author must be credited.

The book is a definitive overview of the financial markets and their economic and political role.

The file is in Acrobat 5.0 format and is 1.1 megabytes in size.

The author made less than $10,000 on this book for six years of work, even though it sold over 20,000 copies. So please consider a contribution here (via Paypal). If you prefer the old-fashioned way, you can mail a check (payable to Left Business Observer) to Doug Henwood, LBO, 38 Greene St - 4th fl, New York NY 10013-2505.
