I am researcher with a PhD in the area of educational philosophy and theory, M.Phil, MA in counseling psychology, and Grad.Dip.Ed in math/science education. I held Postdoctoral Fellowship at Monash University. Presently I serve as a chief consultant to the Institute for Edusemiotic Studies (IES) registered in Melbourne, Australia, see http://www.edusemiotics.org/ Edusemiotics is a new conceptual framework that integrates semiotics (a study of the action of signs and interpretation of symbols) with philosophy of education and learning theories. This short but insightful video (found online) addresses edusemiotics: https://youtu.be/r5qwKYRkT8w -- even if some nuances need to be clarified. The narrator links Edusemiotics to constructivist theories but it is only one half of the puzzle. Edusemiotics is equally constructivist and "expressionist" -- it cannot be otherwise because the paradox of the conjunction of opposites is always present! This is difficult to accept unless we take into consideration the deep layer of the unconscious in the psyche. Meanings are constructed or created, yes, but the impulse for this construction is because of the unconscious trying to express itself. Of course certain (affective) conditions should exist in experience for this to occur. less
