Public pays price for Keystone loss
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has confirmed that the Keystone XL pipeline will be abandoned at a public cost of $1.3 billion — which could have been better spent to sustain schools and universities and to alleviate homelessness.Meanwhile, during the 14-month period of this ill-conceived subsidy to TC Energy, the majority owner of the pipeline, shares of TC rose from $54.98 to $64.47 and paid dividends of $3.30 — for a total return of 23 per cent. This is the UCP way: Privatize profits, socialize risks.
