EDGAR VARESE AMERIQUES

EDGAR VARESE HAD A MAJOR INFLUENCE ON FRANK ZAPPA,

LISTEN CAREFULLY FOR ODDBALL SOUNDS, LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF SPIKE MULLIGAN, THEN THERE ARE REPETITIVE THEMES THAT YOU
WOULD SWEAR YOU HEAR ON UNCLE MEAT.

WHEN I CAME ACROSS THIS IN THE SEVENTIES I THOUGHT

IT HAD BEEN COMPOSED  IN THE FIFTIES, I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND
THIS MODERNIST PIECE WAS COMPOSED  IN 1921

THE REASON I AM POSTING THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE CONTINUOUS

SOUND OF A POLICE CAR SIREN IN THE BACKGROUND.

WHICH REMINDS ME OF MY NEIGHBOURHOOD WHICH HAS THE REGULAR

SOUND OF SIRENS BECAUSE I LIVE NEAR A POLICE STATION, HOSPITAL, FIRE HALL.

FOR SIX WEEK THERE WAS THE MOST AMAZING SILENCE OF NO SIRENS, NO CONSTRUCTION, NO TRAFFIC NOISES, REDUCED NOISE OF THE LRT.

THEN ON THE DAY EDMONTON OPENED FOR BUSINESS THE SIRENS BLARED

AS THE SNOWBIRDS BLASTED THE SOUND BARRIER

AHH BLISSFUL PEACE SHATTERED AGAIN.

HERE IS ANOTHER MODERNIST COMPOSER FROM THE SAME ERA
