Sometimes, you have to stop and listen.

There’s nothing quite like hearing someone tell their story, in their own words.

That’s why we’ve started regular, weekly LabourStart podcasts — where we interview trade unionists on the front lines of the fights for workers’ rights around the world.

  • This week, for example, we had a 10 minute chat with Olesia, a Ukrainian trade union leader, and the first thing she told us was that her city, Kyiv, was at that moment under Russian missile attack.  The rest of the interview was, we think, essential listening.  I encourage you all to hear what she has to say.

  • Last week we spoke with Assaf, whose union has done pioneering work organising Palestinian workers from the occupied West Bank — workers who have not been allowed to return to their jobs in Israel since the war broke out in October last year.

  • And before that, we interviewed Liza, a Belarusian trade unionist now exiled from her country, helping to raise awareness of the brutal attacks on democracy and workers rights under the Lukashenko regime.

Every one of those conversations is important, informative and interesting.

You can also hear them on Apple Podcasts and on Spotify.  We’ll be adding other services in the near future.

I remind you also that LabourStart has had a regular segment on Radio Labour for many years now — you can catch it every Friday here:

I hope you find these shows interesting and that you will share them with friends, family and your fellow trade unionists.

Thank you!

Eric Lee
