PETALING JAYA - A demonstration by members of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department on handling a python has gone viral on social media.

The post by Facebook user Farid Squad King Cobra has garnered over 826,000 views and nearly 260 comments.

In the video, a fireman explains to the audience how to make a python uncurl from one’s leg.

Using a live python, he demonstrates by allowing the snake to curl around his right leg before showing how to dislodge it.

He advises against kicking the legs, as such movements can cause the snake to tighten its grip.

The correct method, he explains, is to grab the snake’s head, tuck it under one’s knee, and then use both hands to untangle it from the tail.
