Status reports that it has uncovered the reason behind Fox News’ firing of veteran entertainer Maria Bartiromo, the business journalist who became a source of right-wing conspiracies.
The Rupert Murdoch-controlled network offered no explanation for her removal, but hours after her dismissal, Status believes it has the answer: Bartiromo, 58, had informed the White House about Fox’s secret instructions to not promote President Donald Trump’s election conspiracies on the air.
Status report that Fox News had instructed senior management to divert coverage of Trump’s primetime address to the nation, wherein he claimed that China had interfered in the 2020 presidential election to benefit Joe Biden. Trump also ravaged the U.S. election system without proof, but neglected to mention Russian interference favoring his own election.
The White House was apparently surprised that its chief propaganda network opted to avoid Trump’s lie-filled address, and mined Bartiromo for an explanation. And it soon dragged the reason out of her. According to Status, Bartiromo even shared the text message that relayed the network’s orders for the White House blackout.
After the network betrayal, Fox managers scrubbed Bartiromo’s presence from the network, with Fox Business Network already taking down her contributor page.
According to the statement, "Effective today, Maria Bartiromo is no longer with FOX News Media. In making the announcement, FOX News Media said, 'We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 and a half years and wish her all the best in her next chapter."

When Fox News issued abrupt press release announcing the departure of its top personality, Maria Bartiromo, the network offered no explanation of what happened, or even whether she was leaving of her own volition or not.
Now, according to the "Status" newsletter, the truth has been revealed: Bartiromo was indeed fired — because of a previously unreported incident earlier this summer.
Specifically, per the report from Oliver Darcy, "After Trump delivered his unhinged prime time speech in which he pushed more conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, this time making a number of allegations against China ... Fox News issued guidance to senior employees instructing them to steer clear of giving credence to Trump’s delusional claims," in the form of a text message to staff.
Once this happened, said the report, Bartiromo spilled the beans to the White House "that Trump’s speech had received scant coverage on the channel because network bosses had ordered it so," and provided them with the text message proving it.
"In doing so, Bartiromo not only effectively betrayed her employer, but also disclosed confidential company information, violating the terms of her employment agreement," said the report.
Bartiromo has frequently landed in trouble for pushing President Donald Trump's conspiracy theories, and claims from his allies, about the 2020 election being stolen.
Her uncritical promotion of claims that Dominion Voting Systems equipment was compromised, some of it coming from a woman who claimed to have learned this through time travel, played a key role in Dominion's defamation suit against the network, which was ultimately settled for just under $800 million.

President Donald Trump's Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, spoke out on X in response to the abrupt news that Maria Bartiromo was departing Fox News — and one particular line in his post drew intense scrutiny.
"I just saw that @MariaBartiromo has left @FoxBusiness @FoxNews & so sad to hear," wrote Huckabee, a Southern Baptist pastor who previously served as governor of Arkansas. "The smartest, hardest-working journalist & absolutely a class act. It was an honor to work with him/ her and later to be guest on a show always worth watching."
The peculiar use of "him/her" had many people piling on with mockery. Many people guessed that Huckabee, or some staffer working for him, accidentally sent out a form letter post without properly customizing it; others, however, joked that Huckabee possibly had some LGBTQ-related dirt on Bartiromo, or at least ridiculed the mistake coming from an administration that is famously dogmatic about gender pronouns.
"I'm always saying 'It was an honor to work with him/ her,'" wrote Bloomberg Washington and White House correspondent Josh Wingrove.
"To work with who now?" wrote Andrew Egger of The Bulwark.
"'It was an honor to work with him/ her,'" echoed commentator Damin Toell, who wondered what "kinda Maria Bartiromo news is about to drop??"
"Her pronouns are she/they, actually," wrote Billy Binion of the libertarian site Reason.
Huckabee himself seemed to notice the jokes about his bizarre statement, and stepped in to clarify.
"Thanks for catching the 'him/her' line!" he wrote. "I was typing while riding in vehicle on bumpy street--but have NO idea how that came out! Aside from my clumsy typo mistake, I still love @MariaBartiromo & will always have total respect for HER. Just HER, no "him" involved!"

President Donald Trump reacted with disbelief to the firing of Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo in a late-night Truth Social post.
Bartiromo abruptly left Fox News with an announcement on Thursday. Reporting by the "Status" newsletter revealed that she was fired after leaking to Trump that Fox News had told staff to steer clear of lending credence to his claims of Chinese interference in the 2020 election.
"I can't believe Maria Bartiromo is no longer going to have her great show (s) on FoxNews/Business," Trump wrote. "Three different shows, always number one. Maria is a total professional, and a true warrior. Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy."
He signed off, "God bless you, Maria!"
