England and Canada reach Rugby World Cup semi-finals
England and Canada each overpowered historic rivals to set up a semi-final showdown at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
A try from Sarah Hunter and a Marlie Packer double gave England a commanding first-half lead against Australia at Auckland's Waitakere Stadium, although Emily Chancellor touched down just before the interval to give Australia hope.
That was as good as it got for the Australians, however.
Abbie Ward, Amy Cokayne and Alex Matthews added further tries and Packer completed her hat-trick as England won 41-5.
Canada then beat the United States 32-11 at the same venue, but had to come from behind after Joanna Kitlinski's early try gave the Americans the lead.
McKinley Hunt, Karen Paqui, Paige Farries and Alex Tessier all scored Canadian tries in response.
The final score was 32-11 in Canada's favour.
Third-ranked Canada will play top-ranked England in the first semi-final at Eden Park - also in Auckland - next Saturday (November 5).
Hosts and defending champions New Zealand will play France in the other semi-final of the 15-a-side women's rugby union tournament.

England claimed a powerful 41-5 win over Australia in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals to book their spot in the semi-finals against Canada.
Red Roses captain Sarah Hunter opened the scoring in the eighth minute on her record 138th Test cap for her country, while Emily Scarrat added the extras.
England’s Marlie Packer scored two tries in the 30th and 38th minute, with only one being converted. Australia responded with their only try of the game through Emily Chancellor on the stroke of halftime as their skipper Shannon Parry and England’s Zoe Aldcroft both spent time in the sin bin at the back end of the first period.

Abbie Ward of England secured a fast start to the second half crossing for an unconverted try in the 43rd minute before Amy Cokayne scored 10 minutes later.
England continued their dominance through an Alex Matthews try in the 65th minute before Packer completed her hat-trick right at the end of the 80. Helena Rowland was on hand to convert.
The win secured the Red Roses their 29th consecutive triumph in what has been an amazing streak of games by the team.
Canada hold strong against the USA
Canada advance to the semi-finals against England after beating the USA 32-11 on Sunday in Auckland.
The USA were out of the blocks well, as hooker Joanna Kitlinski scored in the ninth minute with the conversion attempt missed.
However, Canada responded quickly through two tries from McKinley Hunt and Karen Paquin by the 20th minute, with Sophie Goede converting one.

The USA added a penalty through Alev Kelter before the break, only for Canada to score immediately after half time a Paige Farries converted try in the 41st minute.
The two teams traded a penalty each after the try before Canada’s Alex Tessier scored a converted try just before the hour mark. De Goede would add one more penalty to secure a solid win for her side on the day.
