Syrian army destroys terrorist barracks in desert
Damascus, Feb 27 (Prensa Latina) Syrian army detachments bombed several headquarters of the Islamic State terrorist organization (Daesh in Arabic) in the desert region of Al-Badieh, in the east of the country.
The destroyed positions were used as staging areas for attacks on military convoys, passenger buses and remote communities in the desert, said Major General Nizar Khuder, commander of the 17th Infantry Division.
According to the officer, weapons, ammunition, telecommunications devices, solar panels, medicine and food were seized in the terrorist hiding places.
'We have seized identity documents of the radicals and maps of their deployment, and also identity documents of Syrian soldiers and fighters who fell during terrorist attacks,' the commander said.
He also revealed that 90 percent of Al-Badieh has been cleared of Daesh and that the regulars continue combing operations until they fulfill their mission of eradicating terrorism in that area.
The offensive led by the Syrian army and its allies is carried out with Russian air support and began after the increase in attacks against civilian and military targets in recent months.
