Women protest against Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul convention, the landmark international treaty to prevent violence against women and promote equality. The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has long attacked women’s rights and gender equality, suggesting that feminists ‘reject the concept of motherhood’, taking an anti-abortion stance and claiming that gender equality is ‘against nature’.

A woman holds a rose at the funeral of Luisa Toledo Sepúlveda, who died this week. Toledo, whose image is on the poster, was mother to three children killed fighting against the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile. She dedicated her life to fighting for justice for her children.
