For more than six weeks now, LabourStart has been providing comprehensive coverage of the trade union response worldwide to the unprovoked and illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Stories about the war have dominated our home page. These include:
and much more.
An article I wrote last week may be of interest to many of you - In a divided world, the labour movement is united on Ukraine
Make sure to visit LabourStart's home page to stay up to date with the trade union response to the war.
May Day is coming!
With the international workers' holiday just 23 days away, we'd like to invite your unions to submit short videos as part of a global online celebration we are organising.
As you may recall, two years ago LabourStart hosted a global May Day event online. It was a huge success, lasting 12 hours, and featuring labour leaders and activists from around the world. Nearly 50,000 people participated in the event.
This year, we're going to do it again. And I'd like to invite you take part.
Basically, what I'd like from you is a short video -- no longer than three minutes -- in which you speak. In some cases, that will mean you speaking personally and directly to the camera. In other cases, you might want to include video footage. If your video message is not in English, could you please include English captions. Please do not send me the video clip as an email attachment; we prefer that you use the free service WeTransfer - https://wetransfer.com - using my email address (ericlee@labourstart.org) as the recipient. To give us time to create the broadcast and test it, please submit your video no later than 24 April.
LabourStart will collect the video clips and prepare them in advance for broadcast on 1 May on both the Zoom and Facebook platforms. We will publicise this very widely, including to our mailing lists and our social media accounts and we hope that our friends and partners will join us in spreading the word. Thank you!
Margaret Thatcher and the miners
The Working Class History T-Shirt of the Month for April 2022, made of 100% organic cotton by a worker-owned co-operative, and supporting grassroots labour unions in South Asia is back.
This month's design commemorates the epic struggle of mining communities in Britain against the Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher in 1984-5.
When Thatcher died in April 2013, street parties broke out around the country, especially in former mining communities, and the song "Ding-Dong The Witch Is Dead" reached #1 in the charts.
This t-shirt is available in white, black and blue and is strictly limited edition for this month only. Be sure to preorder yours here by April 30, or by clicking on the link below, as all t-shirts will be sewn and printed together. With discount code LS2022 at the check out you'll get 5% off! All shirts ordered with that code will also support the work of LabourStart.
Click here to learn more and to order your shirt(s).
