TikTok workers on the picket line need our support and solidarity |
Workers on a picket line in Turkey need our help and support right now. The Canadian technology company Telus provides services to TikTok and other major corporations in its operations in Turkey. But their workers are suffering from low wages and psychologically exhausting working conditions. Performance targets are constantly rising, there is no job security, and arbitrary dismissals are taking place. Telus workers have unionised to demand a collective bargaining agreement. In response, the company started firing union representatives and changed its legal status to hinder union activities. Workers, who are now on the picket line in front of the Telus office in Izmir, are demanding better working conditions, recognition of their union rights, and the reinstatement of their colleagues who were dismissed. At their request, we have launched an online campaign in partnership with UNI Global Union, USW Canada and two Turkish unions. Our goal is to send the strongest possible message to Telus -- to flood their inboxes with our messages of protest and solidarity. To learn more and to show your support to these workers, click here. Last week, we did a really great short podcast interview with with Kıvanç Eliaçık, Director of the International Relations Department for the Turkish national trade union centre DISK. Kıvanç talked about the struggle of Telus workers in Izmir and also more broadly about Turkish workers' fight for their rights and for justice. Please share this message with your friends, family and fellow union members. Thank you! Eric Lee LabourStart |
It’s possible that I shall make an ass of myself. But in that case one can always get out of it with a little dialectic. I have, of course, so worded my proposition as to be right either way (K.Marx, Letter to F.Engels on the Indian Mutiny)
