Mafia boss arrested for murder of neo-fascist Lazio Ultra leader

Seven Mafia members have been arrested in Rome, more than seven years after the murder of Lazio ultra boss Fabrizio Piscitelli.
They are suspected of having ordered and organized the murder of Piscitelli, also known as Diabolik, the Carabinieri announced in a statement on Wednesday.
Among those arrested is Michele Senese, the boss of the Senese clan, one of the most powerful Mafia groups in the Italian capital.
Piscitelli was killed in 2019 in a Rome park with a shot to the head.
The 53-year-old was sitting on a bench when a man wearing sunglasses and disguised as a jogger approached him and shot him. The murder caused a major stir in Italy.
Investigators believe that Mafia boss Senese authorized Piscitelli's killing. The murder is said to have been organized by Leandro Bennato, who leads a criminal gang together with his brother.
The alleged gunman was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2026, but was acquitted by the Court of Appeal earlier this year.
The authorities suspect that a power struggle over the lucrative drug trade was the motive.
Piscitelli, who was involved in drug dealing alongside his role as leader of a neo-fascist 'ultra' group supporting the Roman football club Lazio, is said to have increasingly distanced himself from the directives of the dominant Senese clan.
Senese wanted to send a message with the murder and act as a deterrent to maintain his power.
At the time, Piscitelli was regarded as Rome's best-known football ultra. His group, the Irriducibili (meaning 'The Unbreakable'), was notorious for its far-right members.
The group made headlines with banners mocking the victims of the Holocaust. It was dissolved in 2020.
