German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel spoke for the first time about this imprisonment in Turkey. He described being threatened, intimidated and beaten by guards, who called him a "traitor to the fatherland" and a "German agent."
Yücel was accused of "engaging in terrorist propaganda" and "inciting the public to enmity and hatred" in 2017, due to his critical reporting of sensitive topics, such as the Kurdish issue and the Syrian war.

He was released in 2018, but still faces charges in Turkey. More info here: https://p.dw.com/p/30bNy
