Uzbekistan’s Presidential Administration head Saida Mirziyoyeva said on October 2 she met President Donald Trump during a working visit to the US.

“It was a great honour to meet with US President Donald Trump and convey my best wishes to him from President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev,” Mirziyoyeva, who is the eldest daughter of the Uzbek president and tipped by some observers to succeed him, wrote on Telegram.

The Trump meeting comes ahead of a scheduled visit to Uzbekistan by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, planned for mid-October. Rubio is expected to travel to Samarkand with a delegation representing more than 100 US companies and participate in a Central Asia Five+1  (C5+1) meeting with the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The US is expanding investment in several fields across Central Asia, with a particular emphasis on sourcing critical minerals. Trump last November hosted a C5+1 summit and dinner at the White House, attended by the region’s five leaders.

On September 25, Mirziyoyeva met BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) executives in New York to discuss the planned establishment of the Tashkent International Financial Centre, which Uzbekistan aims to launch in 2027. BlackRock is assisting with the development of the centre’s concept and structure.

Mirziyoyeva also held a roundtable with representatives of US business circles to discuss the development prospects of Uzbekistan and the wider Central Asian region.

Mirziyoyeva also spent time in the US promoting Uzbekistan’s integration into global trade and digital markets. She held talks with World Trade Organisation (WTO) director-general Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on the country’s accession to the WTO, discussing progress and remaining tasks in the accession process.

She also met Google vice president Karan Bhatia to discuss the launch of YouTube monetisation in Uzbekistan, as well as international payment systems. The talks also covered improvements to the country’s legislation on personal data processing and digital payments.

In 2025, bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and the US exceeded $1bn, while more than 340 companies with US capital were operating in the country.
