Berlinale to screen newly discovered David Bowie concert footage
27.10.2026

Previously unreleased concert footage featuring English pop icon David Bowie will be shown at the Berlin International Film Festival in mid-February, the organizers announced on Tuesday.
"Combining previously unseen David Bowie concert footage and an immersive sound and light experience from an award-winning team, David Bowie 'Stage' creates a new way of experiencing one of the most influential artists of the 20th century," the festival, also known as Berlinale, posted on its website.
The production is based on newly discovered and restored footage from Bowie's 1978 Isolar II world tour, when he performed tracks from his album "Heroes" which were recorded in Berlin.
Audiences will be able to experience the show across three screens and transparent LED displays, combined with a "live light and sound experience, in a city that meant so much to David Bowie," the festival said. The aim is to place viewers at the centre of a live Bowie concert.
Filmmaker Brett Morgen discovered the original camera negatives while working on his 2022 Bowie documentary "Moonage Daydream."
Berlin is closely linked to Bowie's life story. The musician moved to the then divided city in 1976 to escape various personal problems, including to recover from drug abuse. While there, he created some of his most celebrated music.
The Berlinale will take place from February 10 to February 21, 2027.
