Suspect linked to German youth centre killings found dead in cell

A suspect being held in pretrial detention in connection with the fatal shooting of six people in a youth welfare centre in the north-western German town of Stade last month has been found dead in his cell, justice officials reported on Tuesday.
The Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice said that a prison officer had found the 45-year-old in his cell at the prison in Bremervörde, in Rotenburg east of Bremen.
An emergency physician confirmed his death, determining that he had died by hanging. Investigators believe he died by suicide and said there was no evidence of foul play. The relatives of both the deceased suspect and the victims have been informed.
The man, reported be a German-born Turkish national, was accused of killing six people at a mother-and-child facility on June 28, including three employees of the Hanover Youth Welfare Office and three staff members of the facility in Stade.
According to investigators, the attack was linked to a custody dispute over the suspect's 3-month-old daughter. Police arrested the man shortly after the shooting.
