12 Journalists Already Killed Covering Israel Conflict
The Committee to Protect Journalists is tracking journalists killed while covering the war between Israel and Hamas
At least 12 journalists have been killed while covering Israel's war with Hamas in just over a week, according to an alert from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) that highlights the extreme dangers involved in reporting on the conflict from the region.
The CPJ is actively tracking journalists killed while on duty. As of October 15, a dozen journalists were reported killed, two reported missing, and eight injured.
“CPJ emphasizes that journalists are civilians doing important work during times of crisis and must not be targeted by warring parties,” said Sherif Mansour, CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator.
“Journalists are making great sacrifices across the region covering this important conflict,” Mansour added. “Measures to ensure their safety must be taken by all parties to stop this deadly and heavy toll.”
Per the CPJ's tally, the journalists who have lost their lives in the conflict are:
- Husam Mubarak, a journalist for the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa radio station
- Issam Abdallah, a Beirut-based videographer for Reuters
- Ahmed Shehab, a journalist for Sowt Al-Asra Radio
- Mohamed Fayez Abu Matar, a freelance photojournalist
- Saeed al-Taweel, editor-in-chief of Al-Khamsa News
- Mohammed Sobh, a photographer from the Khabar News Agency
- Hisham Alnwajha, a journalist from the Khabar News Agency
- Assaad Shamlakh, a freelance journalist
- Yaniv Zohar, a photographer for Israel Hayom
- Mohammad Al-Salhi, a photojournalist for the Fourth Authority news agency
- Mohammad Jarghoun, a journalist with Smart Media
- Ibrahim Mohammad Lafi, a photographer for Ain Media
