MOSCOW, July 7 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- The UK Labour Party, which has recently won the general election, has an intention to renationalise British railways "as soon as possible", Sputnik quoted The Telegraph newspaper report, citing new UK Transport Secretary Louise Haigh.

The Labour Party reportedly promised to fully nationalise the country's railway network within five years and create a state-owned company, Great British Railways, which would inherit privately owned passenger transport contracts once they expire.

On Friday, UK Labour Party leader Keir Starmer officially became the 58th prime minister of the country following the party's landslide victory in Thursday's general election.
